TRANSFORMATION OF AGRICULTURE
IN POTHOHAR
IN POTHOHAR
Initiated by the Government of Punjab's
Agriculture Department, this project aims to
develop uncultivated land into cultivable land
through land and water resource development,
in order to promote high-value agriculture in
Pothohar region which is characterized by
undulating topography and a semi-arid climate
with 450 mm of annual rainfall, only 8% of
Pothohar’s land is currently under cultivation,
leaving 92% dependent on erratic rain-fed
(barani) farming — resulting in crop yields
roughly 50% lower than the irrigated areas.
Addressing these constraints could enhance the region's agricultural productivity many folds.
